GSA Mandates Comprehensive Water Quality Testing in Federal Facilities Starting January 2024

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) implements water quality management guidance in federally owned facilities and leased spaces under their jurisdiction, ownership or control.  They issued requirements as of January 2024 for water testing in GSA-leased space and all common areas to which the GSA tenants and its visitors have access and would reasonably expect to use.  This new order integrates CDC resources for Legionella and adheres to thresholds set by EPA regulations for Public Water Systems. The document requires Lessors to provide a qualified professional with expertise in water sampling and relevant industry standards to conduct a drinking water quality assessment.  GSA requires testing for Legionella, Lead, Copper, and Total Coliform (including E. Coli).  The Lead and Copper samples must be analyzed by a State-certified laboratory under NELAC.  The Legionella samples must be analyzed at a laboratory accredited for Legionella analysis according to ISO 17025:2017.

Ensolum’s Industrial Hygiene Group, led by a Certified Industrial Hygienist with over 35 years of experience, is well equipped to meet these new requirements. Ensolum is certified to conduct the necessary testing, provide detailed results and reports, implement temporary solutions if issues are found, and work with the facility’s Water Management Team to find solutions to identified problems.
